Over the past 10 years or so, Online Activism has changed. At first there was just Blogger, or some free sitemakers or you cold make a site from html yourself. Now there is a plethora of places to do online activism.
Remember when blogs were the big thing and where they were the end all of online activism???? Well, that time is over. Not to say blogs are over with and not to be used. But with Twitter, Facebook, Amplify Now,and I could go on and on about all the Social Media sites out there. You do not even need to blog to get your message out now.
Social Media is the trend now in Online Activism. And one of my friends that works at the RNC asked what the new GOP.com site should have. It should have the Social Media or Social Network feel to it. There are a ton of templates and platforms now to build onto to make a great site. There is Word Press and Word Press Multi User that have a ton of free plugins for it. There is also Joomla, and a few others out there. And I am sure they can find enough coders to duplicate or make a well integrated Social Media Site. The Time has passed for a static site where interaction is slow and cumbersome. There needs to be ease of flow between the RNC and the activists from the grassroots.
But we as activists ourselves can utilize these tools also. Most of the Social Media is free or of little cost. Blogs are cheap to host and put up. Same with Joomla. Yes you can make your own community of activists.I made my own Social Network and have not done much work on it, got sidetracked building other blogs for friends and candidates. But it is not hard to do. And is a good way to get friends and family involved. Also a good way to meet others with the same interests as you do.
